Preschool

This week in preschool we saw that we can follow Jesus like his twelve friends.

To do with your child this week:

Give your child two toys. Tell him/her to pick one of them to be the leader. Show him/her how to “walk” one, while making the other follow. You can have fun making the toys do silly tricks. Talk about how we can follow Jesus, and the best way is by loving people the way He loves us.

This week’s Memory verse:

“‘Come and follow me,’ Jesus said.” Matthew 4:19, NIrV

This week’s video was about Forgiveness – deciding someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay. The story for K-Grade 5’s was  “The Story of the Lost Son”

Read Luke 15:11-24 and use some or all of the questions below to spark a discussion:

  • The story of the father and his two sons is called a parable. Do you know what a parable is? (a parable is a story used to teach something, Jesus frequently told parables to make His point)
  • How can we sometimes be like the younger son?
  • How is the father like God?
  • What is Jesus teaching us about God’s forgiveness in this parable?
  • What is one way you respond when you’ve done something wrong?
  • When has someone forgiven you? Encourage kids to share examples and talk about how it felt to be forgiven.
  • What about when you’ve forgiven someone else? How do you think they felt?

Some things you can do with your child this week:

  • Read Psalm 103:8-12  Use it as basis for prayer together.
  • Write Colossians 3:13 on a note and place somewhere you can all see it (i.e. on a bulletin board or the refrigerator). Work together to memorize it and if they do, maybe grab a special treat with them to celebrate the importance of forgiveness. (You can also have a treat if you memorise it 😊.)

This week talked about loving God through giving gifts. We discussed 1 Corinthians 16:2 where Paul laid out some principles for giving to a first century church. We also talked about how giving benefits us as well.

Things You Can Do With Your Child This Week

  • Read 1 Corinthians 16:2. Ask your child if there is something that they would like to give to.  Make a plan together to save and give to that project.
  • Read 1 Peter 4:10 and Romans 12:6-8. Brainstorm together to find some ways that someone can give even if they don’t have a job or money.
